Beauty and skincare routines have become better now with these naturally excreted products from Mother Nature. Now the question of the century begins: Which one is better for my skin, coconut oil or argan oil?
Let’s briefly break down what coconut oil and argan oil are and what properties can benefit the skin.
Argan oil is native to Morocco, pressed from the kernels of the argan tree. The argan oil carries fatty acids that are essentially high level, linoleic acid (omega nine and omega 6), and oleic. These properties in argan oil help nourish and protect your hair. There are also high Carotenes and Vitamin E levels, which are ideal for the hair. The same goes for the skin.
Coconut oil, on the other hand, is extracted juice from the palm tree’s coconut fruits. It’s the juice of the white meat in its brown husk. It goes through many heating and cooling processes before fully getting the right liquidated form of its oil. The coconut oil has fatty acids like Lauric acid, giving its antimicrobial properties. These properties are good for nourishing both skin and hair and even treating dandruff and roughness of hair. Coconut oil also helps moisturize the skin, treat cracks on your feet’s heels, and help with eczema.
Both Argan oil and coconut oil are effective for the skin. Both are also good, just that in the coconut oil’s case, professionals suggest that you take a skin test first. More often than not, there are properties within coconut oil that can trigger allergic reactions. We can say the same about the argan oil, but the coconut oil gets frequent reactions.
Argan Oil Skin Effects
Argan oil helps with treating stretch marks and acne. It moisturizes the skin, rejuvenating it naturally. While it’s a good ingredient for nourishing your body, its effects are best observed when used for facial skin care. Argan oil is a remedy for acne sunburn and restores colour by adding elasticity to the skin cells that have been damaged.
Coconut Oil Skin Effects
Coconut oil doesn’t shine in facial skincare as much as argan oil does. It’s typically because there are dangerous reactions to the facial skin due to the properties in coconut oil that are harmful to the face. The oil tends to clog the pores on your face and may even worsen eczema and other acne cases. While this doesn’t happen to everyone, there’s a bigger ratio of those who tried and got negative results. Since then, it’s always been recommended to consult with a professional before using coconut oil on the face.
So now, coconut oil is for whole-body skincare treatment. While we don’t recommend it for primary skin care treatment, it also does well with removing makeup. Just know that you can use coconut oil as a primary makeup cleanser before washing your face with soap. Always wash your skin with soap after applying coconut oil and letting it sit on your skin, so it seeps into your skin cells.
Argan oil is a native ingredient only in Morocco. It means the oil goes through several shipping processes if you want it raw with you. If you’re going to purchase a product with argan oil, it’ll cost you a bit more. Compared to argan oil, they’re more affordable and easier to get without spending too much on it. Whereas, when you look at coconut oil, it’s easily accessible through palm trees, although tropical plants are easy to find. You can even extract your coconut oil at home if you have coconut trees nearby, with fruits free for taking.
Whether it’s argan oil or coconut oil, both are sure to help moisturize your skin and keep it glowing and healthy. The argan oil is safer to use as it doesn’t have strong reactions, unlike coconut oil. But the downside is that it’ll be a tad difficult to acquire if you have a limited amount of money to spend.
